Status update on the swim season

Hi all – Here’s an update on the summer swim season. I’ll send additional updates as I learn more. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any questions.

Gwinnett County Swim League (GCSL) Board Updates

    • The GCSL is exploring options to keep the season on. June 1st is the first possible date swimmers would enter the water, but subject to CDC and state and local government health guidelines and HOA approvals for pool use.
    • Options being explored including shortening the season or keeping it the full duration and going into late July.
    • Due to the inability to move the date if needed and the facility cost, the County Championship Meet at Georgia Tech is cancelled. The GCSL Board is exploring alternatives – for example, possible Division Championship Meets.
    • The GCSL will make an official decision in mid-May.
    • GSCL is posting regular updates on the League site, feel free to check there for additional information.

    Rivershyre Sharks Updates

    • We continue to prepare for the season as if it will be going forward. Team parents have done training on the new computer system, the 2020 team shirt design is done, information about stroke and turn and starter certification training will be distributed soon, and we have our coaching team in place.
    • The Rivershyre HOA has agreed to allow the team to use the pool for the adjusted season duration, assuming the CDC and state/local government have lifted all relevant restrictions.
    • Registration remains open. If the season does not go forward, a full refund of both the League and team fees will be provided. (Note: We asked the GSCL Board for permission to change the registration process to not require payment until it’s determined whether the season will proceed, but our request was denied as this introduced a level of complexity that would make it more difficult for the GCSL Board to get things up and running quickly if the decision is made in mid-May to proceed.)
    • If you choose not to register at this time, it would be very helpful for our season planning if you’d let us know whether you will register, might register or will not be registering should we get the go for the season. Please either click here (3 question survey) or just reply to this email.

    Everyone take care!

    Beth
